DE Die Bestandteile für die Glasherstellung (Quarzsand, Soda und Kalk) sind nicht grenzenlos verfügbar; die Nachfrage ist höher als das Vorkommen. Benedikt Peirotén entwickelte eine Alternative. Er produziert Glas, das zu 40 % aus Abfällen aus der Gastronomie besteht: aus Asche und Muschelschalen. Die mundgeblasenen Trinkgläser sind kreislauffähig. Sie können endlos geschmolzen und recycelt werden, da sie frei von chemischen oder metallischen Zusätzen sind. (Masterarbeit an der ELISAVA, Barcelona)

EN The raw materials used to make glass (quartz sand, soda, and lime) aren’t available in unlimited quantities. Because demand outstrips supply, Benedikt Peirotén developed an alternative. He makes glass that consists of 40% waste from the catering industry using wood ash and seafood shells. The hand-blown drinking glasses can be melted down and recycled because they don’t contain any chemical or metallic additives. (Master’s project at ELISAVA, Barcelona)
